Nigeria - 57 years after independence!

Nigeria, got her independence from the British colonial rule in 1960 and had so much hope and potential to be one of the biggest economies in the African continent. Today, there is an atmosphere of  melancholy. The citizens do not feel like celebrating and there is much disappointment in the leaders of the country. One can only have a feel of how disappointed people are by going on social media and talking to Nigerians. There is hunger in the country, basic infrastructures are lacking and where available, are dilapidated. The health sector is a shambles, the universities are on strike, regions are agitating for secession, there is tension everywhere and people are in despair.

The leaders of Nigeria have disappointed its people, the wealth of the country misappropriated and unaccounted for. From time to time, the Nigerian newspapers carry news of how huge funds have been traced to government officials whilst its people live in abject poverty. My heart goes out to all the people of the country. In all this sadness, I urge the people not to give up, to be the change they seek, after all, leaders and government officials are a product of the society. There is still hope.
