Quite ridiculous!!

I read that the Nigerian government spent over N600 million on the procurement and maintenance of foreign dogs in the last few years. Well, one could be forgiven to say that this was not such a bad move supposing the country was not going through a very difficult time at the moment.

The Nigerian economy is going through major challenges at the moment. The people are grumbling in the face of hardship. There are major problems going on with factions rising. The issue of Boko haram has not been totally dealt with. The increasingly rising opposition by the citizens in the eastern states of Nigeria, conflicts in major parts of Nigeria and lack of infrastructure, employment and the list goes on and on. One would think that in the face of all these, that something should be seen to be done to ameliorate the struggles that the citizens are going through. Rather, in the face of unbearable hardship, no electricity and fuel, a government official announces that they spent N600 million on the procurement of foreign dogs. The same government that brandished it's citizens for buying foreign goods.

We already know the challenges of development in the country so why not use this money to solve some of the most pressing issues?

I even feel for these beautiful dogs as I am not sure how well looked after they would be. They have not finished looking after human beings, is it dogs that they would look after and treat well? Even the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr Solomon Arase, stated that this purchase is not sustainable in the face of the current dwindling resources.

Development initiatives and projects needs to be seen to be pushed by the government with the support of it's citizens. If the procurement of foreign dogs would help the Nigerian citizens, then it needs to be made clear so that it does not sound ridiculous when the citizens hear the news.
