Briton Held After Kenyan Woman Fatally Shot

Richard Alden was detained following the fatal shooting of Grace Wangeci at his home in Nairobi's upmarket Karen district.

The 53-year-old suspect claims a pistol that Kenyan Ms Wangeci, 42, was holding went off while she was taking "selfies".

Mr Alden said she shot herself by accident and has denied responsibility for her death, according to his lawyer Evans Monari.

He said the gun went off while Ms Wangeci was at his house helping him move.

Mr Alden took her to a nearby hospital on Saturday where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

He was arrested on Saturday and has appeared in court where authorities ordered he should be held for another five days.

Charges have not been filed against Mr Alden, who is set to return to court on Friday.

Mr Alden is married with three grown-up children.

His wife was abroad at the time of the incident but has since returned to Kenya.
