The empire contributions - The centenary of the battle of THE SOMME 1916

I was wondering when the role the British Empire played in this battle would be mentioned on the Television. Just as I was about to research this, BBC News was covering this very topic. The commentators mentioned that the contributions of the Empire could not be underestimated. Although, their contributions has not been given enough coverage as should, it is worth remembering. The empire did not only provide essential supplies but also a supply of men. Men from Africa, India, Canada and other colonies contributed and died in the battlefield too. Resources such as cooper used in some weapons were extracted from Congo.

As the commemorations go on, we also remember men and women from the empire who lost their lives in this battle.
