Libya: Traffickers forced migrants on to dinghies at gunpoint

Migrants have told how they were forced at gunpoint to set sail from Libya in rough seas by traffickers who shot a man dead.

Just 31 people are believed to have survived after two dinghies carrying almost 270 migrants between them capsized in the Mediterranean on Wednesday.

Those pulled to safety were transferred by the Italian coast guard to Lampedusa, where they gave aid workers and the island's doctor the "horrifying" account of how they had been forced to set off in poor weather conditions.
